Day 2: Barcelona

By: Fiona Heilman

Today was a busy day for some of us as we got a lot of free time to explore the town of Barcelona on our own. First, we visited the Sagrada Familia, a huge church that has been under construction for more than 150 years and is not expected to be completed till 2026. It was spectacular and definitely a site to see.

Afterwards, we traveled to Las Ramblas and most of us ate at a great tapas place called Taller de Tapas.

Then, another group of us traveled the metro to go visit the local Barcelona beach. We have become very familiar with the metro here in Spain. It is a lot like MARTA in Atlanta but a bit more complicated.

The beach was beautiful and so was the weather! The sand feels very different probably because it is a man made beach built for the Olympics in 1992. (word of the day: the beach=la playa)

Next, we traveled to the Las Ramblas strip where there was a lot of little market stands open selling jewelry, scarves, bags, etc.

After an already long day, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. Some of us went to LaLola which is a Tapas restaurant located on the top of Placa D'Espanya, an old bull fighting ring that has been made into a modern day shopping mall. It has a gorgeous view of the city and palace. The food was also very delicious.

As you can tell, it has been a very busy day today. I don't know about everyone else, but my feet and legs are killing me. Tomorrow we will be touring around and walking a lot again so let's hope we all survive. At least we're getting our exercise!

Audios Amigos!
