Day 24, January 31st - Cheese, wine, Baden Baden, Black Forest, and more wine

By: Janet & Brett

Cheese for you Today?

Some of their selection at the cheese tasting.
Spent an afternoon at La Cloche a Fromage tasting cheeses from the Alsace region. On the side is a picture of just SOME of their selection. Nuff said!

Alberts Winery

Here's Albert behind the bar at our first trip to his winery.
We’re really lucky to have had Albert Seltz, a fourteenth generation vitner, as our instructor for this year’s wine course. On top of tasting a LOT of wine (it’s been all “spit” and no “swallow”…no…REALLY!!!) His winery was built in 1562 and he very kindly opened up his production area and cellars to us….amazing to wander through rooms and rooms of wine….

Baden Baden & Traube Tonbach

Us at the casino. We clean up good, don't you think?
We took a trip up in to the Black Forest, stopping first at the Casino in Baden Baden. AMAZING….early 19th century architecture and décor…chandeliers for DAYS!!!.....played a little French Roulette…..wandered through the main streets of the town..

…..and then headed up further into the mountains to one of the leading hotels in Germany – the Traube Tonbach. Managed by the same family for over 200 years we were greeted by the current owner. This hotel boasts a restaurant that has, for twenty years running, achieved a Three Star Michelin rating. Had an amazing meal…a great tour..then slept all the way home on the bus.

Outside of the beautiful Baden Baden. The restaurant in Black Forest. Amazing food! The hotel in Black Forest we visited.

Alberts Winery, again!

We got another chance to visit Alberts winery for our class, where we visited the many fields of wine country and got a lesson in soil. After a great group pic on the rokcs, it was back to his cellar for a lot more wine tasting!

All of us in wine country.
