The London Tube

By: Sydney Baker

During our time in London, one of the things I had to get used to was traveling on the tube. Living in San Antonio, I am used to relying on myself, and sometimes others, to drive my car in order to get where I need to be. But taking the tube was an entirely different experience. Everything was fast-paced and people were everywhere. If we were remotely unsure of where we needed to be, the local Londoners would push past us, seeming irritated that we were in the way. It was a little intimidating at first, but we learned fast to step to the side and stay out of their way, usually to the right side of anything so they could pass us. Finding our way and knowing which stops to jump off at was confusing at first, but by the middle of the week, we had it down pretty well. I could read the map and I had a better idea of where we were in terms of the major locations around the city. By the end of the week, I definitely began to like traveling on the tube. But I still prefer driving my car and having the control. Relying on the tube to get around the city is not as reliable as jumping in my car whenever I need to go somewhere. It was fun, nonetheless.
